Algerian Cup final to feature VAR for the first time

The highly anticipated Algerian Football Cup final between MC Alger and CR Belouizdad is set to take place on Friday, July 5, at the Olympic Stadium of July 5, 1962, at 5:00 p.m. For the first time, the match will feature Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology. Lahcene Timbuktu, President of the Algerian Cup Commission, detailed the preparations for the final during a meeting with the FAF Federal Bureau.

MC Alger, commonly known as Mouloudia, will be competing in their tenth final. They secured their spot by defeating CS Constantine 2-1 in an intense semi-final that extended into extra time.

CR Belouizdad, known as Chabab, reached the final by overcoming USM Alger in a dramatic penalty shootout, which ended 3-1 after a goalless draw in regular time.

Victory in the final would mark a significant achievement for Mouloudia, who have already clinched the Algerian championship for the eighth time.

Winning the cup would see them achieve a prestigious double. Meanwhile, Chabab, who finished as runners-up in the league, are eager to compensate for their missed championship title with a cup triumph.

Both MC Alger and CR Belouizdad have illustrious histories in the Algerian Cup, each having won the trophy eight times.

They share this record with ES Sétif and USM Alger, making this final a clash of equals with a rich legacy in Algerian football.

Lahcene Timbuktu’s presentation emphasized the historic nature of this final, not just because of the high stakes but also due to the introduction of VAR.

“This final is a landmark moment for Algerian football,” he said. “The implementation of VAR is a step forward in ensuring fair play and accuracy in officiating.”

Fans and players alike are buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Mohamed, a dedicated MC Alger supporter, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Seeing our team in the final is always thrilling, but the addition of VAR makes it even more special. We hope it will make the game fairer.”

Similarly, Amina, a CR Belouizdad fan, shared her hopes: “We have a strong team, and this cup final is our chance to shine.

The VAR will hopefully ensure that the best team wins without any controversies.”

As the final approaches, preparations are in full swing to ensure a smooth and memorable event.

The Olympic Stadium is expected to be filled with passionate supporters from both sides, creating a vibrant and electric atmosphere.

In conclusion, the Algerian Cup final between MC Alger and CR Belouizdad promises to be a historic match.

With both teams vying for their ninth cup victory and the introduction of VAR, this final is set to be a milestone in Algerian football.

The excitement is palpable, and fans eagerly await the moment when the final whistle will blow, and history will be made.
