Algerian Cup Final Set for May 2: MO Béjaia to Face Racing Club Larbaâ at July 5 Stadium
The final of the 51st edition of the Algerian Cup will take place on May 2, 2015, at the iconic July 5 Stadium in Algiers, following an official announcement by Sports Minister Mohamed Tahmi. The match will see MO Béjaia (MOB) face Racing Club Larbaâ (RCA) in a highly anticipated showdown.
The relocation of the final, which was initially scheduled to be held at the unfinished Olympic Stadium in Algiers, came after the sports minister confirmed that the Olympic stadium would not be ready in time. “The July 5 Stadium will never be ready by that date,” Tahmi stated, leading to the decision to move the event to the historic venue.
Both teams reached the final through dramatic encounters in the semi-finals. MO Béjaia secured their spot with a tense 1-1 draw against ES Sétif, eventually triumphing 6-5 in a penalty shootout. Racing Club Larbaâ made their way to the final after a goalless draw with ASO Chlef, before edging them 3-0 on penalties.
Both teams, who had earned promotion to Algeria’s Ligue 1 in 2013, will now vie for the prestigious cup trophy in what promises to be an exciting and historic final.
