Algerian clubs battle for free agent Ishak Belfodil

Three of Algeria’s top clubs are vying for the signature of veteran striker Ishak Belfodil, who is currently without a club.

The 33-year-old forward, who has had a career spanning multiple continents, is now considering a return to his home country for the first time.

The Algerian international, capped 19 times with two goals, has played in France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Most recently, he featured for Sabah FK in Azerbaijan, where he netted five goals in 21 appearances.

Despite his extensive travels, Belfodil has never played in Algeria’s domestic league—a situation that may soon change.

According to reports from DZ Foot, JS Kabylie, Mouloudia d’Alger, and CR Belouizdad are all monitoring the striker.

JS Kabylie, currently second in the Algerian Ligue 1, is said to be working through the same agent who brought in coach Josef Zinnbauer.

Meanwhile, league leaders Mouloudia d’Alger are searching for an experienced forward following the departure of Andy Delort, with Belfodil viewed as a potential partner for Bayazid.

CR Belouizdad, sitting third in the table, has also expressed interest, though no formal discussions have taken place.

There are, however, concerns about Belfodil’s fitness, as he has not played a competitive match this season.

Yet his physical presence, goal-scoring instinct, and wealth of experience could make him an asset for any club willing to take the gamble.

With three of Algeria’s biggest teams in pursuit, the coming weeks could determine whether Belfodil finally makes his long-awaited debut in his homeland’s top flight.
