Algerian Cup Final Set for July 5 Stadium Despite Ongoing Renovations
The iconic July 5 Stadium in Algiers has been confirmed as the venue for this year’s Algerian Cup final, scheduled for May 2. MO Béjaïa and RC Arbaâ will contest the showpiece event, despite the stadium currently undergoing renovation.
Algeria’s Minister of Sport, Mohamed Tahmi, moved to reassure the public and stakeholders that the stadium would be fully ready in time for the final.
“The July 5 Stadium will be ready by May 1,” Tahmi told Algerian media. “We are closely monitoring the progress of the renovation work, and the timeline established by the project designers is being strictly followed.”
The Ministry has placed significant emphasis on the timely delivery of the works, which include improvements to infrastructure and pitch quality, as part of a broader effort to modernise key sporting facilities in the country.
In preparation for the final push, Tahmi is expected to lead an official inspection of the stadium this Saturday. He will be joined by Minister of Housing Abdelmadjid Tebboune to assess the ongoing refurbishment and ensure the stadium is on track to meet its deadline.
This year’s final marks a significant occasion for both teams. MO Béjaïa, chasing their first major domestic title, will look to cap a strong season with silverware. Meanwhile, RC Arbaâ—who have made steady progress in recent years—will be hoping to spring a surprise and lift the Cup for the first time in their history.
The July 5 Stadium, one of Algeria’s most storied sporting venues, has hosted numerous key matches and finals since its inauguration in 1972. After recent safety concerns and aging infrastructure prompted a series of upgrade projects, the Cup final will serve as a symbolic relaunch for the stadium as a top-tier sporting arena.
With preparations underway both on and off the pitch, the Algerian footballing community eagerly awaits confirmation that the stadium will indeed be match-ready—just in time for one of the country’s most anticipated football fixtures.
