Algeria: Walid Sadi secures seat on UAFA Executive Committee

Walid Sadi, president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Arab Football Union (UAFA) following the organisation’s 28th General Assembly held on Monday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The announcement was confirmed by the FAF in an official statement on its website.

According to the federation, the Arab Football Union (UAFA) held, this Monday, September 15, 2025 in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia, its 28th General Assembly in the presence of the president of the Algerian Football Federation, Mr. Walid Sadi, and the secretary general, Mr. Nadir Bouzenad.

The same statement underlined that the session marked Algeria’s return to the UAFA Executive Committee after a nine-year absence, achieved through the election of Mr. Sadi.

His appointment restores Algeria’s influence within the regional football governing body, a platform that brings together member associations from across the Arab world.

The Riyadh assembly also confirmed the continuation of leadership at the highest level of the organisation, with Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Fayçal reappointed by acclamation as president of the UAFA Council for the 2025–2029 term.

Sadi’s elevation to the executive body comes at a time of growing recognition of his leadership in Algerian sport.

During the recent government reshuffle, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed his confidence in Sadi, extending his responsibilities as Minister of Sports.

Official presidential spokesperson Samir Akoun stressed that the decision reflected appreciation for the reforms and progress introduced by Sadi since taking office, particularly in modernising the country’s sports sector.

In addition to his ministerial role, Sadi has led the Algerian Football Federation since 2023.

During this period, he has overseen significant restructuring within the federation, a process credited with restoring institutional stability and improving organisational efficiency.

His efforts have been widely viewed as instrumental in rebuilding trust and enhancing Algeria’s presence in regional and international football.

The return to the UAFA Executive Committee further cements Algeria’s position within Arab football, offering opportunities to influence key decisions and contribute to the future development of the sport across the region.

It also represents a symbolic moment for Algerian football diplomacy, closing nearly a decade of absence from the body’s highest ranks.

By combining his national responsibilities with a renewed role in the Arab football sphere, Walid Sadi now carries a dual mandate: to continue driving reforms domestically while strengthening Algeria’s voice on the continental stage.
