Algeria’s under-17 national team has launched the final phase of its regional pre-selection process with a training camp underway at the Fouka Elite Sports Training and Regrouping Centre in Tipaza, focusing on players from the central and southern regions.

The camp, which began on Sunday, 4 May 2025, brings together 30 young prospects drawn from the regional leagues of Algiers, Blida, and Ouargla.

This latest session marks the third and final stage in a nationwide effort to identify and prepare the country’s most promising under-17 footballers.

Led by national U17 coach Amine Ghimouz, the initiative is part of a broader rebuilding strategy aimed at strengthening the youth team setup.

The current camp follows earlier training gatherings held in Sétif and Oran, which targeted players from the eastern and western parts of the country, respectively.

“This stage is critical,” said a technical staff member close to the camp. “It’s our final opportunity to observe the talent from these remaining regions before decisions are made about the final squad.”

As part of the programme, a training match is scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon at the Koléa Stadium, which is also serving as the primary venue for daily training sessions throughout the week.

This match will offer a platform for players to showcase their technical and tactical capabilities under competitive conditions.

The training camp is set to run until Wednesday, 8 May. Throughout the five-day period, players will undergo a combination of physical assessments, tactical drills, and match simulations.

The coaching team will use the week to finalise their evaluations and begin shortlisting candidates for inclusion in the official national squad.

Amine Ghimouz and his staff are said to be closely monitoring not only skill and athleticism but also attitude, adaptability, and teamwork.

The aim is to form a cohesive and competitive group capable of representing Algeria with distinction at upcoming international youth tournaments.

The Algerian Football Federation has reiterated its commitment to investing in grassroots development and sees the under-17 category as a vital pipeline for future senior national team players.

The current regional selection process has been praised for its inclusivity, ensuring that talent from across all corners of the country is given equal opportunity to shine.

With the conclusion of this final training camp in Tipaza, attention will turn to finalising the list of players who will form the core of the U17 national team moving forward.

Once confirmed, the selected group will enter a more intensive training phase in preparation for future international competitions.

As Algeria continues to prioritise youth development, this extensive scouting and selection effort is seen as a cornerstone of long-term national football success.
