The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has conducted the draw for the additional qualification rounds of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with Algeria set to enter the competition in the second round.
Initially, seven teams had expressed reluctance to participate in the qualifiers but were ultimately convinced by CAF to take part.
As a result, two of them will have the chance to secure a spot in the final tournament, which will take place from August 2 to 30 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Algeria enters at the second round
As runners-up in the last CHAN edition, Algeria has been granted direct entry into the second round.
The team, managed by Madjid Bougherra, will begin its qualification campaign against the winner of the first-round clash between Gambia and Gabon.
The first leg of Algeria’s qualifier is scheduled to take place between May 2 and 4, with the return leg set for May 9 to 11.
Gambia and Gabon, meanwhile, will face off between February 28 and March 9 to determine who advances to meet the North African side.
