Algeria vs Spain Friendly in the Works, Says Spanish Olympic Chief
A high-profile international friendly between Algeria and Spain could soon become a reality. This possibility was hinted at by Alejandro Blanco Bravo, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, during his visit to Algiers on Tuesday. The occasion was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Algerian and Spanish Olympic Committees.
“I have spoken with the president of the Spanish Football Federation, who is very much in favour of the idea of organizing a friendly match between the teams of the two countries,” said Blanco. “It is now up to the presidents of the Algerian and Spanish Federations, who are good friends, to work out together the details of the organisation of this match.”
Algeria, a last-16 finalist at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, remains one of Africa’s strongest sides. Despite being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations by eventual champions Côte d’Ivoire, the Fennecs continue to be a respected force internationally.
If confirmed, the friendly would offer an exciting test for both teams and strengthen sporting ties between the two nations.
