Algeria international Riyad Mahrez has imposed a special challenge on himself and the entire playing body ahead of the start of the 2025/26 Saudi Pro League campaign.
The reigning Saudi Super Cup champions will play host to newly promoted side Neom SC in their top-flight opening game on Thursday.
However, the former Manchester City star has set an audacious target to compete with the Green Falcons for the league title this season, following their AFC Champions League triumph.
Having spearheaded the club’s first-ever title in Asian elite competition, Mahrez is currently aiming for the League title this season.
Perhaps winning the Saudi Super Cup has raised the bar for Al-Ahli, who are capable of achieving another, and perhaps even greater, domestic title, as long as they are able to defeat their rivals in this manner.
Mahrez will need to build on his good work last season, particularly in terms of assisting goals, to help his team.
The 34-year-odl experienced winger has been in the books of Al Ahli since 2023, with his current contract expected to elapse in summer 2027.
