Algeria run riot with seven-goal demolition of Guatemala in pre-world cup friendly
Algeria delivered a statement performance on an unforgettable night at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, brushing aside Guatemala in emphatic fashion with a seven-goal triumph.
More than just a friendly victory, the result underlined the growing confidence and sharpness of the Desert Warriors as they build momentum toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The North Africans wasted little time asserting control, with Mohamed Amine Gouiri opening the scoring in the 18th minute.
Captain Riyad Mahrez then doubled the advantage from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark, further tightening Algeria’s grip on proceedings. Just before the break, Ashraf Abada added a third in stoppage time, sending Algeria into halftime with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The second half resumed in the same relentless fashion, as Houssem Aouar struck almost immediately after the restart in the 47th minute. Gouiri returned to the spotlight once more, netting his second of the night and Algeria’s fifth in the 60th minute, capping off an outstanding individual performance.
With the game already beyond doubt, Algeria’s substitutes ensured the attacking spectacle continued. Fares Ghadjimis found the net in the 76th minute before Ahmed Nadhir Ben Bouali rounded off the scoring six minutes later, sealing a resounding 7-0 victory.
Attention now shifts to Turin, where Algeria will face Uruguay next Tuesday in what promises to be a sterner examination.
The clash forms part of their preparations ahead of challenging Group 10 encounters against Argentina, Jordan and Austria at the World Cup.
