Rafik Halliche has made a successful return to competition. The Algerian international defender, who had been sidelined due to injury, returned to action last Monday during the 20th day of the Portuguese first division championship.
Halliche’s team, Académica Coimbra, faced Maritimo Funchal and unfortunately lost 2-3. However, the significant news is that the Algerian player, gradually regaining his form, played the entire match, indicating his physical recovery.
After more than two years of struggle with injuries, Halliche made a comeback to the Algerian national team during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN-2013). The coach, Bosnian Vahid Halilhodzic, expressed satisfaction with Halliche’s performance during the tournament.
At 26 years old, Halliche is one of the few remaining players from the group that qualified Algeria for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The national team’s coach is counting on the defender for the remaining Brazilian World Cup qualifiers.
Halliche joined Coimbra at the beginning of the season from Fulham, a club in the English Championship.
