Algeria prepares for crucial World Cup qualifier against Mozambique

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has stepped up its preparations for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Mozambique, with officials conducting an inspection of the Hocine-Aït-Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou.

A FAF delegation visited the newly constructed venue on Tuesday to assess its readiness ahead of the decisive Group G clash, scheduled for March.

The stadium, which was inaugurated in July 2024 after several delays, will host the Algerian national team for the second consecutive home fixture.

The venue made its debut as an international host in November 2024, when Algeria secured a dominant 5-1 victory over Liberia in the final round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

That performance marked a strong start for the stadium, and officials are now ensuring that it meets all necessary standards for the high-stakes encounter against Mozambique.

Kick-off time confirmed

According to Algérie Football Média, the match is set to kick off at 10 p.m. local time (GMT+1), though an official confirmation from the FAF is still pending.

The late start time is expected to provide more favorable playing conditions, particularly considering Algeria’s warm climate.

Both Algeria and Mozambique currently sit atop Group G with nine points each, having won three matches and lost one.

However, Algeria holds a superior goal difference, giving them the slight edge in the standings.

A victory in this fixture would be crucial for the 2019 African champions as they push to secure top spot in the group.

However, their position could be further strengthened if they also win their preceding match against Botswana.

With qualification for the 2026 World Cup at stake, Algeria will be aiming to make the most of their home advantage and build momentum as they approach the latter stages of the qualifying campaign.
