Algeria players briefed on new IFAB rules ahead of 2026 World Cup
Algeria’s national team has been informed of the latest amendments to the Laws of the Game introduced by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), with the changes set to be implemented during the 2026 World Cup.
The briefing took place after the Greens returned to Algiers following their victory over the Netherlands. As preparations continued, players and members of the coaching staff gathered at the auditorium of the Sidi Moussa Technical Centre to receive detailed explanations of the updated regulations.
The session was led by former international referee and current national director of arbitration, Mehdi Abid Charef. He outlined the most significant modifications approved by IFAB and explained how they will affect matches at the highest level of international football.
Among the changes highlighted was a new rule concerning player substitutions. Under the amendment, a player leaving the field after being substituted must do so within ten seconds.
If that time limit is exceeded, the incoming substitute will not be allowed to enter the match immediately. Instead, the replacement player will have to wait for one minute before being permitted to take part, with play being stopped before the substitute can enter the field.
The presentation formed part of Algeria’s ongoing preparations, ensuring that both players and coaching staff are fully aware of the regulatory changes that will govern matches in future international competitions.
By familiarising themselves with the new interpretations and procedures introduced by IFAB, the national team aims to avoid unnecessary infringements and adapt quickly to the revised laws when they come into force during the 2026 World Cup.
The briefing also provided an opportunity for players and staff to gain a clearer understanding of the practical impact of the changes, particularly those relating to match management and player conduct during substitutions.
With the new regulations set to become part of the global game, Algeria’s squad has now received first-hand guidance on the amendments as preparations continue for future international assignments.
