FIFA Fines Algeria Over Fan Behaviour During World Cup Match
FIFA has handed the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) a €50,000 fine following inappropriate conduct by Algerian supporters during their 2014 World Cup match against Russia in Brazil.
The sanction was announced after investigations into several incidents involving the Fennecs’ fans. Reports indicated the use of laser pointers aimed at the Russian goalkeeper, which the Russian coach publicly condemned, as well as the presence of smoke bombs and firecrackers within the Algerian fan section.
According to Algerian news site ChoufChouf and Burkina Faso-based outlet Burkina24.com, the fine amounts to approximately 33 million CFA francs.
The Algerian Football Federation responded promptly, urging supporters to exercise restraint and maintain a respectful atmosphere at future matches to avoid harsher penalties — including the possible suspension of the national team from upcoming competitions.
This latest disciplinary action highlights FIFA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring fair play and safe environments for all teams and fans during the World Cup.
