Nabil Fekir Focused on Olympique Lyonnais Amid National Team Decision

Nabil Fekir has made it clear that his current focus is entirely on his club, Olympique Lyonnais, as he continues to establish himself at the top level of French football. The Franco-Algerian midfielder, who has been in impressive form this season, is keeping any thoughts of international duty on the back burner, despite ongoing speculation about which national team he will represent.
Christophe Delmotte, the former Lyon defender who knows Fekir well from his time in the club’s youth system, spoke positively about the 21-year-old’s mindset. Speaking on Canal+, Delmotte explained that Fekir is in excellent spirits and is fully committed to Lyon for the time being, putting aside the question of whether he will choose to represent Algeria or France at the international level.
“I spoke with Nabil on Monday, and I was really pleased with his approach,” Delmotte said. “He told me that his sole focus right now is Olympique Lyonnais. He’s just arrived at the top level, and he wants to continue playing for Lyon and keep improving. I believe he’s on the right path, and by concentrating on his club, he’s not letting the national team question distract him.”
Fekir’s situation has been the subject of much debate in recent months, with both Algeria and France eager to secure his services for their respective national teams. Born in France to Algerian parents, Fekir is eligible to play for either side, and both federations have expressed interest in calling him up. However, Fekir has yet to make a definitive decision on his international future.
Delmotte believes that by focusing on Lyon, Fekir will be able to avoid unnecessary distractions as he continues to develop his game. “At the moment, he doesn’t want to get caught up in discussions about his international future,” Delmotte added. “The requests from national teams will come later. What matters now is his continued growth at Lyon.”
Fekir’s performances for Lyon have already attracted attention, with the attacking midfielder playing a key role in the team’s impressive start to the season. His skill, creativity, and eye for goal have made him one of the brightest young talents in French football.
For now, Fekir is determined to remain focused on his club ambitions and will leave the decision about his national team future for another time. As Delmotte emphasized, the priority is clear: Lyon comes first.
