Algeria need result against Kenya to reach Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals

Algeria will look to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations when they face Kenya on Monday.

The match will take place at 21:00 BST on Monday, 3 August, at Stade olympique de Rabat. Kick-off will take place at the same time as the other Group A fixture between Senegal and Morocco.

With three points from their opening two matches, Algeria are in a strong position. A victory would guarantee Farid Benstiti’s side a second consecutive appearance in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

A draw could also be enough for Algeria to progress, although that would depend on Senegal failing to beat Morocco in the group’s other final match.

The Vertes began their campaign impressively with a 2-0 victory over Senegal. However, they were beaten 1-0 by hosts Morocco in their second game after conceding late on.

Algeria held Morocco at bay for more than 80 minutes, but Sanaa Mssoudy eventually found a way through. The goal ended Algeria’s run of five successive clean sheets in the competition and brought an end to almost 600 minutes of unbeaten football for goalkeeper Chloe N’Gazi.

Benstiti’s team will nevertheless need to improve in front of goal. Algeria have scored in only one of their past five matches at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Kenya return to the tournament for the first time in 10 years, but their comeback has so far been difficult. The Harambee Starlets suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat by Morocco before losing 1-0 to Senegal.

Their second performance was more promising. Kenya registered 22 shots and created several opportunities, but they were unable to turn periods of pressure and control into goals.

The Harambee Starlets now have to beat Algeria to keep their qualification hopes alive. They would ideally need to win by a significant margin and rely on Senegal losing to Morocco.

That combination of results would allow Kenya to upset the standings in Group A, although the task remains a demanding one for a side still seeking its first points of the tournament.
