Algeria mourns two-cap goalkeeper Abderrahmane Allane

The Algerian football community is in mourning after former national-team goalkeeper Abderrahmane Allane died at the age of 56, local sources reported on Thursday.

His death was confirmed by USM Alger in a statement published on the club’s official Facebook page. Allane ended his club career with USM Alger and remained associated with a period that included success both domestically and with the Algeria national team.

Born into the Algerian football system through MC Alger, Allane later played for JS Kabylie, WA Boufarik and USM Alger. His time with JS Kabylie brought the most significant league honour of his career, as the club won the Algerian championship in 1995.

Allane subsequently joined USM Alger, where he secured another major domestic trophy. He was part of the team that won the Algerian Cup in 1999, completing a club career that had taken him through several established sides in Algerian football.

At international level, Allane made two appearances for Algeria. His first came in June 1998, when he played against Bulgaria in a match Algeria lost 2-0.

He returned to the national-team set-up the following month for the fixture against Libya. Algeria won that match 3-1, giving Allane a victory in his second and final appearance for the Fennecs.

Those two matches represented his entire senior international record, but they formed part of a playing career that included championship and cup success at club level. His death at 56 has therefore been marked by both USM Alger and the wider Algerian football community.

Allane’s path began at MC Alger before taking him to JS Kabylie, where he won the 1995 league title. He then played for WA Boufarik and finished his club career at USM Alger, lifting the Algerian Cup there in 1999.

The details of his death were reported by local sources on Thursday, with USM Alger later providing confirmation through its official social-media channel. No further information about the circumstances of his death was given in the report.

The editorial team at Afrik-Foot expressed its condolences to Allane’s family and to the Algerian football community. His passing brings the death of a former Algeria international and a goalkeeper whose career included appearances against Bulgaria and Libya, as well as major domestic honours with JS Kabylie and USM Alger.

Allane represented his country during a period when his club career was reaching its later stages, making both of his Algeria appearances in 1998. His final international match was the 3-1 win over Libya in July of that year.
