MO Béjaïa Seeks Postponement to Focus on CAF Champions League
MO Béjaïa is determined to make a strong impression in its first African campaign in the CAF Champions League. The Algerian side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Ashanti Gold last Sunday in the first leg of the preliminary round but remains confident ahead of the return leg.
To ensure the team is in optimal condition for the crucial match on Sunday, February 28th, MO Béjaïa has formally requested a postponement of their scheduled home fixture against USM Alger in the 21st round of the Algerian Ligue 1, originally set for the coming Tuesday.
Coach Abdelkader Amrani explained the reasoning behind the request: “The club has contacted the Football League for the postponement of the match against USMA, which comes five days before the return match against Ghana’s Ashanti Gold in the Champions League, which we must prepare well for. We have not received any response from the LFP yet,” he told APS on Friday.
Amrani stressed the importance of considering the club’s request, noting the challenges of playing three matches in a single week. “The decision-makers will have to take our request into consideration, since we represent the country. Playing three matches in the space of a week is far from helping our affairs,” he added.
MO Béjaïa’s management hopes that the postponement will allow the team to focus fully on the return leg and increase their chances of advancing to the next stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
