Algeria midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki rejoins FC Twente on permanent deal

Algeria international Ramiz Zerrouki has completed a permanent move from Feyenoord to FC Twente, bringing an end to his three-year spell in Rotterdam after signing a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030.

The 28-year-old midfielder returns to Twente following a loan spell last season, with the Eredivisie side confirming his permanent arrival as he begins a new chapter at the club where he previously established himself.

Zerrouki leaves Feyenoord after making 65 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist during his time with the Dutch club.

He joined Feyenoord from FC Twente three years ago in a deal worth more than €7 million, but despite enjoying several memorable moments, he was unable to secure a regular place in the club’s starting line-up.

His spell in Rotterdam included winning the Dutch Cup and featuring in notable UEFA Champions League fixtures against Atlético Madrid and Lazio, although he ultimately struggled to cement himself as a first-choice midfielder.

Reflecting on his departure, Zerrouki admitted that his time at Feyenoord had not unfolded as he had hoped.

“When I arrived at Feyenoord three years ago, I only wanted one thing: to succeed. I also have many moments I am proud of and happy about, such as the Champions League nights at De Kuip and the Cup victory.

But things didn’t go as we all hoped. That’s why a permanent transfer to FC Twente seems like the right decision. I wish all the fans and everyone at Feyenoord the very best.”

His return to FC Twente concludes speculation over his future after interest emerged from elsewhere in Europe.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Italian club Lazio had opened discussions with Zerrouki’s representatives as they explored midfield reinforcements ahead of the new season.

The report stated that Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso had identified the Algeria international as one of the players under consideration before the transfer window progressed.

Despite that interest, Zerrouki opted to continue his career in the Netherlands by committing his future to FC Twente.

The midfielder also represented Algeria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the national team’s campaign came to an end in the Round of 32 following defeat to Austria.

His decision to return permanently to Twente marks the latest chapter in his career, with the club securing the services of an experienced international on a long-term contract that runs until 2030.

After an eventful period at Feyenoord, Zerrouki will now look to re-establish himself at a familiar club as he begins another spell in Enschede.
