French Ligue heavyweights, Olympique Lyon are on the brink on securing the signature of Algeria international midfielder Himad Abdelli ahead of the winter transfer window.
The 26-year-old has attracted significant interest following a standout performance for Angers last season. Abdelli proved to be the creative spark in a side that defied expectations to comfortably steer clear of relegation from Ligue 1.
He missed the start of this season due to injury, but since returning, he has once again been influential for Alexandre Dujeux’s side. His two goals in 13 games do not do justice to the impact that the Algerian has in the attacking department.
The midfielder is currently with the Algeria national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and could return from the tournament joining Lyon.
In an attempt to secure his signature in the winter window, the Algeria star has already held talks with coach Paulo Fonseca. However, Lyon must however, convince Angers to cash in on the midfielder. A deal could be done for a little over €1m, given that he has just six months remaining on his contract.
His importance, however, was recognised by the Algeria national team, earning a place for the continental showpiece in Morocco, following the withdrawal of Houssem Aouar due to injury.
When he returns from Morocco, it may not be to Angers. As per L’Équipe, Lyon are pushing to sign Abdelli, and he has already held talks with Paulo Fonseca. OL must, however, convince Angers to sell. A deal could be done for a little over €1m, given that he has just six months remaining on his contract.
