Following Algeria’s triumphant 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, questions arose regarding the departure of Hakim Medane, the general manager of the national team. Speculation suggested tensions between Medane and head coach Djamel Belmadi as the reason for his exit. However, Kheïreddine Zetchi, president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), clarified the situation during an appearance on the program Studio El-Kora.

According to Zetchi, Medane’s departure was purely personal. “After winning the AFCON, and upon our return home, Hakim Medane decided to step down for personal reasons,” he explained. The FAF president emphasized that there was no conflict between Medane and Belmadi, dismissing any rumors of internal disputes.

Zetchi also detailed the organizational changes that followed Medane’s exit. “I believe Djamel Belmadi is the general manager, as he is responsible for all technical aspects of the national team. He also has oversight of other aspects of the team,” he said, highlighting the increased responsibility now placed on the coach. To handle non-technical matters, Belyacine Brahim has been appointed as coordinator, ensuring the team’s operations continue smoothly.

This clarification underscores the trust the federation places in Belmadi to manage the national team’s technical direction while maintaining organizational efficiency. Medane’s departure, far from being controversial, was a voluntary step back, allowing Belmadi greater authority over Algeria’s footballing affairs.
