Before assuming the role of the USM Algiers club’s coach, Hubert Velud was in advanced discussions with Mohamed Raouraoua, the president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF). Raouraoua had offered Velud the position of coach for the Algerian Olympic team.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the president of the FAF for thinking of entrusting me with the technical helm of the Olympic selection. We were in very advanced contact, but we had not concluded anything before the contact from the USMA reached me, and to which I responded favorably,” declared Velud at a press conference in Algiers.
“For the record, the first person to whom I sent a message after concluding with the leaders of the USMA was the president of the FAF. He responded to me by congratulating me, and that made me really happy,” he added.
Currently, Azeddine Ait Djoudi manages the under-23s, while he is at the helm of JS Kabylie, a club in the Algerian league 1. The under-23s were eliminated in the first round of the African championship in their category, which took place at the end of 2011 in Morocco.
Hubert Velud has previously qualified Togo for the CAN 2010, although the team unfortunately did not participate due to the Flec attacks in the Cabinda enclave.
