Despite being fully focused on preparing the Algerian national team for the last match of the CAN 2013 qualifiers, Vahid Halilhodzic, the Franco-Bosnian coach, reveals in an interview with France Football magazine that he has lost sight of his ambitions and yearns to return to Ligue 1 to rectify past mistakes.
Expressing his desire to return to the French league, Halilhodzic reflects on his previous stint with PSG in 2003. Despite a successful first season, including a Coupe de France victory and a second-place finish in the championship, challenges arose as key players left the team. The coach, known as Coach Vahid, faced difficulties and was eventually dismissed on February 8, 2005, just days before a Coupe de France match against Bordeaux.
Halilhodzic acknowledges his share of responsibility for the PSG episode, emphasizing the need to return to Ligue 1 and correct the course of his coaching career. He admits to lapses in communication but expresses his endearing, sincere, and faithful nature, recognizing that he was sometimes more known for his theatrics than his coaching prowess.
Currently focused on leading Algeria to qualification for CAN 2013, Halilhodzic sees the upcoming match against Libya on October 14 in Blida as crucial. The outcome could pave the way for Algeria (Fennecs) to participate in the competition. Once this mission is accomplished, Halilhodzic looks forward to revisiting his aspirations in French football.
