ALGERIA: RAÏS M’BOLHI LEFT OUT OF SEYCHELLES MATCH DUE TO LACK OF PLAYING TIME
After several weeks in France, Raïs M’Bolhi is back in the United States and has resumed training with Philadelphia Union. However, the Algerian international goalkeeper will not be part of the Fennecs’ squad for the June 13 AFCON 2017 qualifier against Seychelles.
Coach Christian Gourcuff explained his decision at a press conference:
“I think that Raïs M’Bolhi’s non-call-up to face the Seychelles is logical. He has just resumed training with his club, so I preferred to leave him at their disposal. A goalkeeper needs to play often and remain competitive.”
The 29-year-old has had limited game time with his MLS club, which influenced Gourcuff’s choice. Still, the coach remains optimistic about M’Bolhi’s return:
“I think Raïs M’Bolhi will return to the Greens as soon as he has a good volume of competition.”
Until then, other goalkeepers like Malik Asselah and Sofiane Khedairia will have a chance to step up for Algeria.
