Azzedine Doukha Proud of AFCON Call-Up as He Prepares for Crucial League Clash
JS Kabylie goalkeeper Azzedine Doukha has expressed immense pride after being named in Christian Gourcuff’s 23-man squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea. The Algerian shot-stopper, who missed out on the 2014 World Cup, sees this as a moment of redemption.
“The coach has included me in the list of 23 players who will play in the African Cup. It’s an honor for me to be on it and I’m very proud,” Doukha told Le Buteur.
“I needed this call-up after missing the World Cup. I hope we will represent Algeria with dignity.”
Before joining the national team, Doukha remains focused on club duties. JS Kabylie will face USM El Harrach, current Ligue 1 leaders, in a critical domestic clash this Saturday.
“It’s a very difficult encounter, as we’re going to be facing a very good USMH team that plays excellent football. As proof, they share first place with USMA. For our part, we’ll do our best to try to maintain this momentum and, why not, come back with a good result,” added Doukha.
With AFCON approaching and a challenging league fixture ahead, Doukha hopes to carry strong form from club to country as he aims to contribute to a successful campaign for Les Fennecs.
