Nabil Fékir Reportedly Chooses Algeria Over France
The long-standing question about Nabil Fékir’s international future may finally have an answer. According to reports from Footmercato, the Olympique Lyonnais midfielder has reportedly chosen to represent Algeria, the country of his parents, over France.
Fékir, born in Lyon to Algerian parents, had been courted by both the French Football Federation (FFF) and the Algerian Football Federation (FAF). After asking for time to make his decision, the 21-year-old is said to have leaned toward Algeria—a choice influenced by his father’s wishes.
However, Fékir has not yet made his decision official, and no statement has been issued by either the player or the Algerian federation. The uncertainty around the timing of his announcement keeps both federations and fans in suspense.
If confirmed, Fékir’s choice would be a major boost for Algeria, which has been actively recruiting dual nationals ahead of major competitions like the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and future World Cup campaigns.
Until he plays a competitive senior match for either country, Fékir remains eligible for both under FIFA rules.
