Algeria defeats Zimbabwe with encouraging performance
Algeria’s national football team claimed a 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe in a friendly match held at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in Jeddah.
The encounter, notable for its empty stands and subdued atmosphere, saw coach Vladimir Petković deploy a surprising 3-5-2 formation to shore up defensive weaknesses and assert control in possession.
The opening half showcased Algeria’s technical precision and attacking flair:
Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing a clever setup from Ibrahim Maza and Mohamed Amoura.
Amoura dazzled in the 40th minute with an extraordinary solo effort, dribbling through the defense after a pass from Bounedjah and firing into the top corner.
Just before halftime, Jaouen Hadjam volleyed in Algeria’s third following a wayward clearance of Maza’s cross.
The second half featured multiple substitutions, with the team maintaining a steady rhythm and controlling the game. Rayan Aït-Nouri nearly added a fourth goal after another sharp Maza assist, but missed his chance. Petković gave playing time to Dorval, Hadj-Moussa, Bakrar, Zorgane, Kebbal, and Titraoui, testing squad depth as Hadjam left with a minor injury.
Late in the match, a penalty conceded by Belghali allowed Zimbabwe to reduce the deficit, but Algeria’s performance remained promising, with strong pressing, creativity, and squad rotation offering hope for upcoming continental challenges.
