Head coach of Algeria Vladimir Petkovic is urging focus following a successful 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.
The former Africa champions secured back-to-back wins over Botswana and Mozambique to maintain their lead in Group G, as qualification to the biggest soccer mundial unfolds.
Algeria defeated Botswana last week before inflicting a 5-1 win over Mozambique at the Stade Hocine Aït Ahmed on Tuesday night.
Despite being on top of the standings, the Bosnian tactician has urged his players to remain focus with four games to end the World Cup qualifiers.
“We achieved a very important victory over the runner-up, which allowed us to take sole possession of the top spot in Group G, which strengthens our chances in the qualifiers,” Petkovic said during the press conference.
“Our players showed great fighting spirit and maintained their focus throughout the 90 minutes. This made me very happy and prompts me to thank them for everything they did today.”
“I thank all the players for their excellent performance in the match, despite the fatigue and exhaustion they suffered after returning from Botswana. They showed great fighting spirit and focus.”
He continued, “We have taken an important step forward with this victory, but we must focus and prepare well for our upcoming matches, as the qualifiers are not over yet.”
Algeria is seeking for their fifth World Cup qualification in history and first since 2014.
