ALGERIA EYES YOUNG TALENTS: BAHLULI AND BENRAHMA ON GOURCUFF’S RADAR
Algerian national team coach Christian Gourcuff is keeping a close eye on young French players of Algerian descent, particularly Farès Bahlouli (AS Monaco) and Said Benrahma (OGC Nice). Although the current Fennecs squad is solid, Gourcuff is planning for the future and may integrate these promising talents in the upcoming international fixtures.
“Bahlouli, Benrahma, Sid Ahmed Aouedj (MC Alger), and Mehdi Jean-Tahart (Paris FC) are interesting players eligible for selection in the upcoming matches,” said Gourcuff. “During the two October matches, there will be opportunities to call up new players.”
However, a potential hurdle remains: the players’ willingness to represent Algeria. Recent cases, such as that of Nabil Fekir, who ultimately chose to play for France despite strong interest from Algeria, show that dual-nationality players may hesitate to commit.
The Fennecs coach remains hopeful that these young prospects will decide in favor of their roots and bolster Algeria’s squad in the near future.
