Egyptian giants Zamalek FC are in an advanced talks to secure the services of Algeria international Farid El Melali.
The 27-year-olf winger is joining the Egyptian club as a free agent following his departure from French club Angers at the expiration of his contract.
According to reports, negotiations between El Melali’s representatives and Zamalek have reached an advanced stage, with the winger having significantly reduced his initial salary demands of $900,000-$1 million annually to accommodate the Cairo club’s current financial constraints.
Zamalek’s well-documented monetary challenges, including outstanding payments to former players and coaches as mandated by FIFA, had initially cast doubt on their ability to secure high-profile signings.
However, El Melali’s willingness to adjust his expectations has paved the way for what could prove to be a bargain acquisition for the White Knights.
The right winger will depart Angers alongside compatriots Zinedine Ferhat (32) and Zinedine Ould Khaled (25) as the Ligue 2 club undergoes squad restructuring.
For El Melali, the potential move to Egypt represents an opportunity to reignite his career after mixed fortunes in France, while Zamalek gain an experienced international capable of operating across the frontline.
