The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has confirmed the appointment of Nedder Razik as the new head coach of the country’s U20 national team.

The 38-year-old, who has been a key figure in AS Saint-Étienne’s youth development system since 2012, will take charge as Algeria gears up for upcoming international competitions.

Razik Brings Wealth of Experience

Razik, an Algerian national, has spent over a decade nurturing young talent at Saint-Étienne, working with age groups ranging from U12 to U19 before taking over the club’s reserve team in 2019.

His most notable achievement came in 2019 when he guided the club’s youth side to victory in the prestigious Gambardella Cup, France’s top competition for U19 teams.

His appointment is seen as a major step in strengthening Algeria’s U20 setup, which will be aiming to perform strongly in the 2025–2026 international competitions, including the zonal qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA U20 World Cup.

Amine Ghimouz to Lead U17s

Alongside Razik’s appointment, FAF has also named Amine Ghimouz as the new head coach of the U17 national team.

The 51-year-old is no stranger to Algerian youth football, having previously led the U20 side between 2007 and 2010 before taking on roles with several domestic clubs, including MO Béjaïa and JSM Béjaïa.

Ghimouz’s return is expected to bring stability and experience to Algeria’s U17 program, as the team looks ahead to upcoming continental and global tournaments.

Preparations Begin in April

Both the U17 and U20 squads will begin their training camps in April, with FAF prioritizing strong development pathways for young players.

With major international tournaments on the horizon, including the qualifying rounds for the 2026 U20 World Cup, Razik and Ghimouz will be tasked with building competitive teams capable of representing Algeria on the global stage.
