The Algerian national football team will depart for Gaborone, Botswana, on March 17, two days earlier than initially scheduled, in preparation for their 2026 World Cup qualifying match.
The decision by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) aims to give the squad sufficient time to acclimate to local conditions before facing Botswana on March 21 at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.
Adaptation to weather and Ramadan considerations
Team officials are particularly concerned about the intense heat in Francistown, where temperatures are expected to reach around 32°C.
Additionally, the match is set to take place in the afternoon, coinciding with Ramadan, which could impact the players who will be fasting.
By arriving earlier, the squad hopes to better adjust to these challenges and maximize their preparation for the crucial qualifier.
Mozambique set to arrive in Algeria for second fixture
Following the Botswana encounter, Algeria will return home to host Mozambique in their sixth qualifying match on March 25.
The game will be played at the Hocine-Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou.
Mozambique is scheduled to arrive in Algeria on March 23 and will travel by bus from the capital to Tizi Ouzou.
The visiting team will hold just one training session at the stadium on March 24 at 10 p.m., the same time the match is set to kick off.
With two pivotal matches ahead, Algeria aims to strengthen its position in the World Cup qualification campaign, ensuring the best possible preparation for both fixtures.
