Alexandre Santos set to leave AS FAR as head coach
AS FAR head coach Alex Santos is set to part ways with the Moroccan giants after the club endured a frustrating finish to the 2025/26 campaign, falling short of their domestic and continental ambitions.
Santos’ expected departure comes after AS FAR concluded the league season in fourth place, a result that denied the club qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League.
Missing out on Africa’s premier club competition is regarded as a significant setback for one of Morocco’s most successful football clubs.
The disappointment was compounded on the continental stage, where AS FAR’s hopes of ending the campaign with silverware were dashed by Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Moroccan side suffered defeat in the CAF Champions League final, finishing as runners-up despite an impressive run to the tournament’s showpiece.
Although Santos guided the team to the final of Africa’s elite club competition, the failure to secure the title, coupled with the club’s inability to qualify for next season’s Champions League through their league position, has ultimately led to the decision for the Portuguese tactician to leave.
His departure will bring an end to a tenure marked by moments of promise but one that ultimately failed to deliver the major trophies and league finish expected by the club’s hierarchy and supporters.
AS FAR are now expected to begin the search for a new head coach as they prepare for the 2026/27 season, with the priority likely to be rebuilding the squad and restoring the club to contention both domestically and on the continental stage.
