Alexandre Santos confident ahead of AS FAR’s CAF Champions League final against Sundowns
Moroccan giants AS FAR are preparing for a difficult challenge when they face South African powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final next Sunday in Pretoria.
Despite the magnitude of the occasion, Royal Army head coach Alexandre Santos has expressed confidence in his team’s preparation and determination ahead of the highly anticipated continental showdown.
Santos Emphasises Focus And Discipline
Speaking to the official website of Confederation of African Football, Santos revealed that the squad has been preparing in an atmosphere filled with concentration and commitment.
The Portuguese tactician explained that the technical staff is working extensively on every aspect of preparation, including the physical, tactical, and mental side of the game, to ensure the team delivers its best possible performance in Pretoria.
Santos acknowledged the quality and experience of Mamelodi Sundowns, describing the South African champions as one of the strongest clubs on the continent because of their organised playing style and continental pedigree.
Royal Army Target Positive First-Leg Result
The coach stressed that tactical discipline and minimising mistakes will be crucial if his side hopes to secure a positive result away from home.
He also highlighted the importance of taking advantage of scoring opportunities against a team known for controlling matches and punishing defensive lapses.
According to Santos, several players within the Royal Army squad possess valuable experience in African competitions, but he believes the true strength of the team lies in its collective spirit and shared ambition to bring continental glory back to the club.
Dream Of Continental Glory Returns
AS FAR are aiming to win the CAF Champions League title for the second time in the club’s history after a lengthy absence from the top of African football.
Santos stated that the club’s supporters deserve to see the team return to the podium and celebrate another historic continental triumph.
The Portuguese coach admitted that pressure is inevitable in matches of this magnitude, but he sees it as extra motivation for the players to give everything on the pitch while remaining calm and focused.
Message Sent To The Fans
Santos concluded by thanking the club’s supporters for their continuous backing throughout the campaign.
He assured the fans that the players will fight with full determination in order to honour the jersey and make the supporters proud during the final against Sundowns.
