Alexander Isak’s rapid brace gives Liverpool a record-breaking start against Ipswich Town

Alexander Isak scored twice inside the opening nine minutes of Liverpool’s match against Ipswich Town to give his side an early advantage and place himself in the club’s record books.

The Sweden international found the net in the sixth and ninth minutes, producing a decisive contribution at the beginning of the game and immediately underlining his importance to Liverpool’s attack. His two goals also marked the fastest double scored by a Liverpool player in the Premier League since 2011, according to Opta.

The previous player to achieve the feat was Argentina international Maxi Rodriguez, who scored twice in the opening seven minutes of Liverpool’s match against Fulham in 2011.

Isak’s goals against Ipswich Town further strengthened what has been an encouraging start to the season for the Swedish striker. He had already scored against Nottingham Forest in the previous round, meaning he has now registered three goals in the competition.

His early impact represents a notable change in fortunes after a difficult first season with Liverpool. Injuries restricted Isak to 22 appearances in all competitions during that campaign, and he managed only four goals.

The forward arrived at Liverpool from Newcastle in a record-breaking transfer, with significant expectations surrounding his ability to become one of the club’s leading attacking players. Liverpool’s advantage was established before the contest had fully settled, with Isak striking first in the sixth minute and adding another three minutes later. The sequence made him the central figure of the opening phase and ensured that his name would be recorded in the club’s Premier League statistics.

For Isak, the goals continued a productive response to the setbacks of his first season at Anfield. His limited involvement last term, caused by injury problems, had prevented him from building the kind of consistent run expected from a record signing. This season, however, he has already scored in successive rounds, against Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town, and has moved to three goals in the competition.

Liverpool had signed Isak from Newcastle with the expectation that he would provide a major threat in front of goal.
