Alexander Isak trains with Liverpool for first time after record transfer

Alexander Isak has officially begun life at Liverpool, reporting for his first training session since completing a British-record move from Newcastle.

The 25-year-old striker arrived at the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday as excitement mounts over his potential debut under Arne Slot.

Liverpool paid £125 million on transfer deadline day to prise him from St James’ Park, eclipsing the £116m they spent on Florian Wirtz just weeks earlier.

Born in Sweden to Eritrean parents, Isak has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most talented forwards.

His switch from Newcastle was one of the most talked-about moves of the summer, not least because he spent much of the off-season refusing to play for his former club amid protracted negotiations.

Slot and Liverpool’s recruitment team see the record fee as an investment in a striker entering his prime, capable of transforming their attack.

Isak has spent the international break with Sweden but managed just 18 minutes across their two World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo.

That limited involvement allowed him to stay fresh ahead of his introduction to Liverpool’s set-up this week.

The club are now gearing up for his first outing in a red shirt, with Sunday’s Premier League trip to Burnley earmarked as a possible debut.

Supporters are expected to travel in large numbers for the clash as anticipation grows over the arrival of a player tipped to lead Liverpool’s forward line for years to come.

Slot is yet to confirm whether Isak will start at Turf Moor but made no secret of his delight at landing the forward.

Liverpool officials believe his pace, power and composure in front of goal will quickly make him a key figure at Anfield.
