Alexander Isak reacts to Arne Slot sacking after turbulent Liverpool season

Alexander Isak has spoken about Arne Slot’s departure from Liverpool, marking the end of a difficult season for the club.

On 1 September 2025, Liverpool completed the British record £130 million signing of Isak from Newcastle United, with the Swedish striker penning a six-year contract until 2031 and taking the No. 9 shirt as the club’s primary centre-forward under head coach Arne Slot.

However, the team finished fifth without a trophy despite winning the Premier League title the previous year and securing Champions League qualification on the final day.

Speaking while with Sweden at the World Cup, Isak said: “I’ve kind of disconnected from Liverpool now that I’m here with Sweden.”

He continued: “It’s always sad when a coach has to leave. The manager is usually the first position to change when things go badly.” Isak added: “As I said, I don’t know much about what has happened or will happen. I wish him all the best”. Despite his record transfer and new role, the striker remains focused on international duty while Liverpool’s future remains uncertain.
