Liverpool has confirmed that Alexander Isak has undergone surgery following the leg injury he suffered last weekend, turning focus from celebration to recovery.
The operation was carried out after medical checks revealed the extent of the damage picked up during the 2-1 victory over Tottenham, a match that should have been remembered for its quality and drama.
The club statement explained the procedure and next steps. “After diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.
“Isak’s rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe yet placed on his return.”
There is growing concern that the forward could be sidelined for several months, raising questions about whether Liverpool may look for attacking cover when the January window opens.
The 26-year-old had just scored when misfortune struck. He met Florian Wirtz’s pass in the 56th minute, but a sliding challenge from Micky van de Ven caught him awkwardly. Isak stayed down in pain and left assisted, replaced by Jeremie Frimpong.
