Manchester City Pull Out of Alexandre Song Chase to Focus on Pogba Pursuit
Alexandre Song is no longer on Manchester City’s radar, according to the Manchester Evening News. The Premier League giants have reportedly withdrawn from negotiations with the Cameroonian midfielder to fully concentrate their efforts on securing the high-profile signing of Paul Pogba.
The news comes just days after Africa Top Sports reported that both Manchester City and Chelsea had entered discussions with Song, whose future remains uncertain following his loan spell at West Ham United from Barcelona.
City’s decision to pull out reflects their strategic focus on landing Pogba, viewed as a transformative signing for the club. With limited space in their midfield and a sizeable investment expected for the Juventus star, the club has chosen not to pursue alternative options like Song at this stage.
As a result, Chelsea may now have a clearer path should they wish to pursue the former Arsenal man, who has expressed his desire to remain in the Premier League. Song’s experience, physicality, and versatility continue to make him an appealing prospect for several English clubs.
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba remains one of the most sought-after players in Europe, and Manchester City’s full attention is now on attempting to lure him to the Etihad.
