Alex Leyi: Cameroon defender joins TeBe Berlin after spell without a club
Cameroon centre-back Alex Leyi has joined Tennis Borussia Berlin after a period without a club, as the NOFV-Oberliga Nord side move to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.
The 23-year-old, born in Douala and standing at 1.90m, arrives in Berlin as a free agent, having last been on the books of TuS Makkabi earlier in the 2025-26 season. He left the club in January and has now sealed his return to competitive action with TeBe Berlin in time for the 2026-27 campaign.
Leyi is primarily a right-footed central defender and already has experience of German regional football, having made six appearances in the NOFV-Oberliga Nord and featuring in the Berliner Pokal. Those outings followed a spell in Kosovos top flight with KF Llapi, where he played in the Superliga e Kosoves and the domestic cup after joining from Brazilian side Santo Andre.
His move to Llapi in April 2023 came on a free transfer from Santo Andre, where he had previously appeared in youth and state-level competitions in Brazil, including the Copinha and the Campeonato Paulista set-up. That combination of South American and European experience gives TeBe Berlin a defender who has already adapted to contrasting footballing environments.
Leyis most recent competitive minutes came across league and cup action in Germany and Kosovo, with over 600 minutes recorded in Kosovos top division and further game time in Berlins regional competitions.
The Cameroonian now links up with Tennis Borussia Berlin ahead of the new season, completing a free transfer from unattached status to the NOFV-Oberliga Nord club.
