Nigeria's Alex Iwobi in contention for Premier League Player of the Month

Fulham have received a timely fitness boost ahead of their Premier League trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Nigeria international Alex Iwobi declared fit and available for selection after a spell on the sidelines.

The midfielder had been absent since limping off during the goalless draw against Brentford in April, a setback that raised concerns within Marco Silva’s squad during a busy phase of the season.

However, the 29-year-old has now completed a full week of training with his teammates and is firmly back in contention for a place in the matchday squad at Molineux on Sunday.

His return is expected to provide Silva with greater flexibility in midfield and attacking areas, where Fulham have occasionally lacked creativity and composure in recent matches.

Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed Iwobi’s return and highlighted the significance of his availability as his side prepare for a tricky away test in the West Midlands.

“Alex is back in contention for the game,” Silva said in his pre-match press conference, as per the Fulham official website. “Last week, he had some training sessions with us. This week, throughout the week, he’s been working with us. It’s been a good week for him.”

Silva further underlined the midfielder’s influence across multiple roles, adding: “He’s a big player for us, definitely. He’s a player who’s very versatile, who can play in many different positions. He’s also a player that can add extra quality in the decision making.”

The Fulham boss concluded by stressing Iwobi’s importance this season, noting: “In all aspects of the game he’s a key player for us and he’s shown it again this season. It’s a boost. Definitely, it’s a boost.”

Iwobi’s return comes at a crucial juncture in Fulham’s campaign, with Silva’s side looking to build momentum in the closing stages of the season.

The visit to Molineux is expected to pose a stern test, with Wolves traditionally strong at home and capable of disrupting opposition rhythm through intensity and direct play.

Having Iwobi available again provides Fulham with additional creative options in the final third, as well as greater balance in midfield rotations. His ability to operate across several attacking and central roles offers Silva tactical flexibility, particularly in matches where control in possession becomes decisive.

Before his injury, the Nigerian international had been an important figure in linking play and supporting transitions, attributes Fulham have missed during his absence.

His reintegration into the squad could therefore prove timely, not only for Sunday’s fixture but also for the broader demands of the run-in, where squad depth and versatility often determine outcomes. Silva will hope his return strengthens attacking rhythm and improves chance creation in key moments against Wolves on Sunday.

His return also arrives as Fulham look to stabilise performances away from home, with consistency in the final third proving decisive in recent fixtures.
