Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has etched his name into the history books of the Africa Cup of Nations, becoming the second Super Eagles player to register double assists in a single match in over a decade.
Iwobi, who plies his trade for Premier League outfit Fulham produced an outstanding performance as the West Africa football heavyweights triumphed over Tanzania in their opening AFCON 2025 clash in Morocco on Tuesday.
The enterprising midfielder registered two assists, as the Super Eagles inflicted a 2-1 victory over the Taifa Stars to cap off an impressive start to the tournament in the North African country.
Iwobi has now succeeded in matching a long-standing record, becoming the second Super Eagles players to provide brace of assists in the past 12 years at the continental showpiece. The last player to achieve this feat was John Obi Mikel back in 2013, where Nigeria emerged as champions of the AFCON.
Nigeria will face Tunisia in their next match. The winner of that encounter will secure a place in the knockout stage ahead of schedule. The game will take place on Sunday, December 27.
