Alejandro Balde ruled out of Inter Milan clash as Flick forced to adjust defensive plans

Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde is likely to sit out the team’s next fixture against Inter Milan, despite earlier expectations that he would be fit to play, Spanish outlet AS reports.

Balde, who has Guinean roots, continues to be monitored after recent concerns over his physical readiness.

The 21-year-old’s absence presents a tactical dilemma for head coach Hansi Flick, who may be forced to shuffle his defensive setup ahead of the European clash.

According to the report, Flick could deploy a backline composed entirely of central defenders to cover the gap.

Inigo Martinez is seen as the frontrunner to slot in at left-back—a role he filled effectively during the second half of Barcelona’s previous encounter with Inter at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

On the opposite flank, Eric Garcia is tipped to start, while Ronald Araújo and Pau Cubarsí would anchor the central positions.

Andreas Christensen is also under consideration, particularly after a convincing performance against Real Valladolid.

Concerns about Balde’s availability escalated on Thursday, when the player reportedly failed to complete training due to discomfort.

That led to his removal from the matchday squad ahead of Barcelona’s win over Valladolid.

Club staff are now focusing their efforts on ensuring the full-back is fit in time for El Clasico against Real Madrid, scheduled for 11 May.

Barcelona, who are balancing domestic commitments with their European campaign, will be looking to maintain defensive stability in Balde’s absence.

The highly-rated defender has been a regular fixture on the left side of Flick’s back four this season and his potential loss for a key match adds to the manager’s selection challenges.
