Albert Sambi Lokonga back training and impressing at HSV camp
Albert Sambi Lokonga has taken an important step forward in his recovery, returning to the pitch with Hamburger SV after missing the friendly against Everton through injury.
The Belgian-Congolese midfielder joined the squad at the start of their training camp in Herzogenaurach and, according to Hamburger Morgenpost, left a positive impression.
Lokonga was able to complete large parts of the regular session alongside his teammates, a clear sign that he is moving closer to full fitness. Given his recent absence, HSV’s staff chose a sensible, cautious approach during the practice game. The new signing was used as a neutral player, meaning he stayed out of direct challenges while still taking part in the team’s play and rhythm.
That setup allowed Lokonga to gradually increase his workload without unnecessary risk. For HSV, seeing him back integrating into normal drills is encouraging as they build towards the new season. His presence in midfield is expected to be an important part of their plans, and this controlled return should help avoid setbacks.
With the training camp under way, Lokonga’s progress will be closely monitored, but early signs suggest he is on track to contribute soon.
