Alanyaspor secure Paolo Fernandes as AEK Athens winger begins Turkish loan

Paolo Fernandes, the Spain and Cape Verde winger, has joined Alanyaspor from AEK Athens on loan in a fresh move to Turkey.

The 28-year-old right winger has moved to the Turkish Super Lig side after returning to AEK Athens from a loan spell with Saudi Arabian club Al-Khaleej at the end of June. His Alanyaspor loan is scheduled to run until 30 June 2027.

Fernandes, who was born in Zaragoza and stands 1.67m tall, is a left-footed wide player. He joined AEK Athens from fellow Greek club Volos NFC in September 2022 in a permanent move, having initially spent time there on loan earlier in the same season.

His first period with AEK proved the most successful spell of his senior career so far. He was part of the side that won the Greek league and Greek Cup in 2023, before moving to Al-Khaleej on loan for the 2025-26 campaign.

Fernandes began his development in Spain with Zaragoza’s youth system before moving to Manchester City’s academy in 2013. He progressed from the club’s under-18 side to its under-23 team, and later spent time on loan with Dutch club NAC Breda and Italian side Perugia.

He left Manchester City permanently for Castellon in September 2020 and moved to Volos NFC the following year on a free transfer. After his permanent switch to AEK Athens, Fernandes added a Greek Super Cup runners-up medal to his honours during the 2026-27 season.

The move to Alanyaspor gives Fernandes a new club in a third country after his previous spells in Greece and Saudi Arabia. Alanyaspor compete in the Super Lig, while AEK Athens play in Greece’s Super League 1.

Fernandes joins his new club with a reported market value of €1m and returns to loan football after his season with Al-Khaleej. He has now completed his move from AEK Athens to Alanyaspor, with the agreement taking effect on 24 August 2026.
