Senegal Eyes Redemption in Monastir as Giresse Stresses Importance of Victory
After a frustrating 0-0 draw in Dakar against Tunisia, Senegal faces a pivotal return clash this Wednesday in Monastir on Matchday 4 of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. With both teams tied atop Group G with seven points, the stakes are high, and Senegal coach Alain Giresse knows his side can’t afford a misstep.
“This is a mini-championship where every point matters,” Giresse remarked. “We’re playing against tough teams. Egypt is back in the race and could ramp up the pressure with another win against Botswana. That makes our match against Tunisia even more crucial.”
While the goalless draw in Dakar kept Senegal level with Tunisia, Giresse expects a different dynamic in Monastir. “Tunisia won’t settle for another draw at home—they’ll want to win. We’re preparing accordingly, aiming to implement the best system to get a positive result,” he stated.
The Senegalese squad will need to raise their game on enemy turf to maintain leadership in the group and fend off Egypt (3 points), who now loom as a potential disruptor to the qualification race. With just a few matches left, Wednesday’s encounter could determine who takes control of Group G in the road to Morocco 2015.
