Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Elshenawy, currently under contract with Al Ahly, is reportedly a target for Saudi Arabian club Al Wehda as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Al Wehda, who finished thirteenth in the Saudi Pro League for the 2023/24 season, is actively seeking to bolster their squad.
One area they are keen to strengthen is their goalkeeping department, with Mohamed Elshenawy identified as a pivotal figure who could provide added security between the posts.
The Saudi club has expressed interest in acquiring the services of the 35-year-old Egyptian international, viewing his experience and skill set as beneficial to their team.
At present, the interest from Al Wehda remains speculative, with no formal offer having been made to Al Ahly for Mohamed Elshenawy.
The goalkeeper is contracted with the Egyptian club until June 2025, implying that he still has a full season left at Al Ahly’s facilities before any potential move could materialize.
Mohamed Elshenawy’s season with Al Ahly has seen its highs and challenges. Establishing himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, he encountered setbacks due to injury during the African Cup of Nations earlier this year.
This injury sidelined him for a significant period, allowing teammate Mostafa Shobeir to step in.
Despite these challenges, Elshenawy managed to participate in 21 matches during the season, achieving 11 clean sheets, showcasing his proficiency and resilience under the goalpost.
