Al Wakrah confirm Hamdy Fathi will miss Al Gharafa match through injury

Al Wakrah have confirmed that Hamdy Fathi will miss their Qatar League meeting with Al Gharafa because of injury.

The two sides will face each other at Al Janoub Stadium in the fifth week of the competition, with Al Wakrah also confirming that Ridwan Berkan will be unavailable.

The club announced the absences on its official Twitter account.

Fathi underwent nasal surgery several days ago after suffering an injury before the current international break. The Egypt international returned to Al Wakrah training on Sunday evening wearing a protective mask.

The 31-year-old was not included in Egypt’s squad for the current international break because of the problem.

Fathi was injured while playing for Al Wakrah against Al Sailiya in the Qatar Cup before the international break began. Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan subsequently confirmed the midfielder would not be able to join the squad.

“Hamdy Fathi suffered an injury with his Qatari club Al Wakrah, confirming his absence from the national team camp,” Hassan said.

Fathi, a former Al Ahly player, has made 67 appearances for Egypt and scored three goals. He was also one of the key players involved in the preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

Al Wakrah are 10th in the Qatar League with two points from two draws and two defeats.
