Al Shamal sign Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane from Al Ahly
Al Shamal have announced the signing of Tunisia midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane from Al Ahly ahead of the new season.
The Qatar-based club confirmed that Ben Romdhane successfully completed his medical and will now join his new team-mates in training as preparations begin for the campaign.
His move comes several days after Al Ahly officially announced the Tunisian’s departure. The Egyptian club thanked Ben Romdhane for his time with the team but did not disclose his next destination at the time.
Ben Romdhane spent one season with Al Ahly after joining from Hungarian club Ferencvarosi. His spell in Egypt has now come to an end, with Al Shamal confirming that he will continue his career in Qatar.
The midfielder becomes the second player to move from Al Ahly to Al Shamal in recent months. He follows Akram Tawfik, who joined the Qatari club after his Al Ahly contract ended at the start of last season.
Al Shamal’s announcement completes the sequence of events surrounding Ben Romdhane’s transfer. First, Al Ahly confirmed that the player would leave the club without naming his next team. Ben Romdhane then underwent the required medical examination, which he passed successfully, before Al Shamal announced his arrival.
The move gives Ben Romdhane the opportunity to begin a new campaign with a club preparing for the start of the Qatar League. The competition is scheduled to begin on 20 August, while Al Shamal’s opening fixture will be against Al Arabi.
Ben Romdhane will therefore join preparations for Al Shamal’s first match as the club builds its squad for the new season. The announcement confirms that he is now part of the team after one season at Al Ahly and a previous spell with Ferencvarosi.
Al Ahly’s decision to confirm his departure earlier in the week had left his next club undisclosed. Al Shamal have now formally revealed that the Tunisia international will continue his career in Qatar, following the completion of his medical.
The signing also strengthens the recent connection between the two clubs, with Akram Tawfik having made the same move before Ben Romdhane. Al Shamal will begin their league campaign against Al Arabi on 20 August, with Ben Romdhane expected to be involved in the club’s preparations for the new season.
