Al-Shabab set to sack Thomas Letsch after winless start to Roshn Saudi League season

Al-Shabab are set to dismiss German manager Thomas Letsch, with the Roshn Saudi League potentially heading towards its second managerial departure of the 2026-27 season after only one month of competition.

Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported that Al-Shabab have decided to end Letsch’s tenure because of the team’s poor results since the start of the campaign.

The Riyadh-based club have failed to win any of their opening seven league matches. They have lost three and drawn four, leaving them 14th in the table with four points.

Al-Shabab submitted a request to the Saudi Professional League on Sunday seeking approval for Letsch’s dismissal, according to the report.

Once the league authorities formally approve the decision, Al-Shabab are expected to announce the manager’s departure and name the coach who will take charge for the remainder of the season.

Letsch’s anticipated exit comes shortly after Al-Taawoun became the first club to make a managerial change in the current campaign. The club announced on Saturday that Serbian coach Zarko Lazetic had been dismissed, with Jihad Al-Hussein appointed to lead the team on an interim basis.

That decision followed Al-Taawoun’s heavy 6-0 defeat by Al-Hilal in the seventh round of the Roshn Saudi League.

Al-Shabab have also suffered an early setback in the King’s Cup. They were eliminated in the round of 32 after a surprise 3-2 defeat by Al-Wehda.
